More than $9,000 in scholarships awarded to sorority women in an effort to make college more affordable
INDIANAPOLIS — The National Panhellenic Conference Foundation (NPC Foundation) today announced the recipients of NPC Foundation scholarship grants for 2021. The NPC Foundation awarded seven scholarships, totaling $9,200, to sorority women to help offset undergraduate and graduate education costs.
The 2021 NPC Foundation scholarship award recipients are:
- Mallory Lorene Bayless, Sigma Kappa, Arizona State University.
- Holly Chafin, Alpha Gamma Delta, University of Georgia.
- Alicia Cornelius, Zeta Tau Alpha, Oklahoma State University.
- Kaitlyn Dailey D’Amico, Pi Beta Phi, University of California-Riverside, Arizona State University, San Jose State University and Liberty University.
- Lacey Myers, Chi Omega, University of Southern Mississippi and Concordia University Irvine.
- Arianne Ontiveros, Alpha Delta Pi, University of Southern California.
- Madison Thornton, Alpha Omicron Pi, University of Mississippi and Tulane University.
“College affordability remains a challenge for today’s students and NPC and the NPC Foundation continue to look for ways to offset college costs,” said Barbie Chadwick, president of the NPC Foundation Board of Trustees. “The Foundation is pleased to be able to financially support these seven dedicated scholars who possess strong leadership skills and a demonstrated a commitment to advancing the sorority experience. On behalf of the Foundation, I wish all of the scholarship recipients well as they continue their higher education pursuits.”
Chadwick added, “It is a daunting task for our 22 sorority alumnae volunteers to review 265 scholarship applications and select the recipients, especially given the high scholastic achievements of the sorority women who apply. On behalf of the Foundation, I would like to also express our gratitude to the organizations and individuals who continue to help us expand our scholarship program in support of the sorority experience and college affordability.”

Alpha Phi/Betty Mullins Jones Scholarship
Alicia Cornelius, Zeta Tau Alpha, is the recipient of the Alpha Phi/Betty Mullins Jones Scholarship, which was established by the Alpha Phi Foundation to honor Betty Mullins Jones’ commitment to the National Panhellenic Conference. This scholarship is awarded annually to a collegiate Panhellenic woman who has worked to further her fraternal community’s reputation on her campus and who embodies the values of sisterhood, philanthropy and scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a woman who makes a difference in sorority life by serving on her College Panhellenic.
Cornelius is pursuing a degree in accounting at Oklahoma State University.
Carole Jurenko Jones Scholarship
Holly Chafin, Alpha Gamma Delta, is the recipient of the Carole Jurenko Jones Scholarship, established by Alpha Omicron Pi. This scholarship award honors Carole Jones’ commitment to the National Panhellenic Conference, including serving as NPC chairman. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a collegiate or alumna member in good standing of a NPC member organization who has served in a chapter or Panhellenic leadership role and who has demonstrated Panhellenic spirit, outstanding service and leadership to her campus or community.
Chafin is pursuing a master’s degree in elementary education at the University of Georgia. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia in 2021.
Elizabeth Ahlemeyer Quick/Gamma Phi Beta Scholarship
Arianne Ontiveros, Alpha Delta Pi, is the recipient of the Elizabeth Ahlemeyer Quick/Gamma Phi Beta Scholarship that was established to honor Betty Quick’s long and devoted service to both NPC and Gamma Phi Beta. This $2,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a collegiate member in good standing of one of the NPC member organizations. Nomination is required by College Panhellenic and the nominee must have displayed outstanding service to her local College Panhellenic. The collegiate member must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and plan to enroll as a full-time junior or senior (as defined by the school) for the upcoming academic year.
Ontiveros attends the University of Southern California studying law, history and culture as well as communication.
Mary Louise Roller Scholarship
Madison Thornton, Alpha Omicron Pi, is the recipient of the Mary Louise Roller Scholarship that was funded by a grant from Alpha Omicron Pi to honor Mrs. Roller’s 33-year tenure on Alpha Omicron Pi’s Panhellenic Delegation. The Mary Louise Roller Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship and is awarded to an undergraduate woman who plans to attend graduate school the following fall. Each recipient shall have displayed outstanding service to her local College Panhellenic during her undergraduate years.
Thornton is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and has been accepted to attend th Tulane University School of Medicine this fall.
Phoenix Panhellenic Association Centennial Scholarship
Funded in honor of the Phoenix Panhellenic Association’s centennial, this scholarship is awarded annually. The scholarship typically is awarded to a collegiate or alumna member in good standing of a Panhellenic organization who lives in or is enrolled in a college or university located in the state of Arizona. For 2021, two scholarships of $1,600 each were awarded as follows:
- Mallory Lorene Bayless, Sigma Kappa, undergraduate student at Arizona State University, majoring in English and justice studies.
- Kaitlyn Dailey D’Amico, Pi Beta Phi, a doctoral candidate studying history at Liberty University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in history from University of California-Riverside, a master of arts in history from Arizona State University and a master of library and information sciencen from San Jose State University.
Sigma Kappa Courage and Conviction Scholarship
Lacey Myers, Chi Omega, is the recipient of the Sigma Kappa Courage and Conviction Scholarship, funded by Sigma Kappa in honor of Donna Crain King’s service as 2015-17 NPC chairman. It is a $1,000 scholarship awarded annually. The scholarship is awarded to a collegiate or alumna member in good standing of a Panhellenic organization and who has achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA, displayed significant service or contributions to her chapter, university or community at large, and demonstrated noteworthy “courage and conviction.”
Myers has been accepted into the Master of Clinical Health Counseling program at Concordia University Irvine. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
