By August 28, 2019News Release, Uncategorized

INDIANAPOLIS — The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), one of the largest advocacy and support organizations for women, today announced the recipients of the Harriet Macht Outstanding Alumnae Panhellenic Award and the New Alumnae Panhellenic Award.

Harriet Macht Outstanding Alumnae Panhellenic Award

NPC has recognized the Northern Virginia Alumnae Panhellenic Association with the Harriet Macht Outstanding Alumnae Panhellenic Award. The award, established in 1993 by Delta Phi Epsilon in honor of former NPC Chairman Harriet Macht, recognizes excellence in communication, programming, scholarship and service for the 2017-19 biennium.

The Northern Virginia Alumnae Panhellenic Association (NVAPA) comprises women from all areas of Northern Virginia representing 22 of the 26 NPC member organizations. NVAPA meetings include programming that focuses on service, leadership, academics or friendship. Throughout the year, the group works to fundraise to provide scholarships to undergraduate, sorority women attending colleges and universities in the Commonwealth of Virginia. They support multiple philanthropies including The Circle of Sisterhood and Ellie’s Hats. Additionally, NVAPA recognizes outstanding alumnae chapter members through Woman of Distinction Awards at the group’s annual Celebrating Excellence Luncheon.

New Alumnae Panhellenic Award

NPC has recognized the Central Iowa Alumnae Panhellenic Association with the New Alumnae Panhellenic Award for 2018-19. NPC annually recognizes a recently chartered Alumnae Panhellenic who exemplifies the Alumnae Panhellenic purposes: informing sorority women of current trends, promoting the sorority experience, improving the Panhellenic image and stimulating a continuing interest in Panhellenic affairs. The Alumnae Panhellenic must have been chartered within the last four years to be considered for the award. The Alumnae Panhellenic is evaluated on their administration and programming efforts along with input based on interactions with the group throughout the chartering process.

Established in 2015, the Central Iowa Alumnae Panhellenic Association has representatives from 16 of the 26 NPC member organizations. They have hosted the Pedal for Panhel bike ride and a networking session with collegiate sorority women at Drake University in which alumnae shared career and life advice. Members also volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and collected clothing to be donated to the Career Closet.
