By December 6, 2017Press Release

INDIANAPOLIS – The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), the premier advocacy and support organization for the advancement of the sorority experience, announced today that Carole Jurenko Jones, Alpha Omicron Pi, has been installed as the 2017-19 NPC chairman. As NPC chairman, Jones directs the mission and strategic work of NPC, chairs the board of directors and represents the organization at various conferences and meetings to advocate for the sorority experience.

“The officer rotation plan, in effect since 1910, is one of the most deliberate and time-honored traditions of NPC,” said Dani Weatherford, NPC executive director. “Every two years, the gavel passes from one NPC member organization to another, based on admission to NPC. While each chairman brings her unique skills and point of view, the rotation speaks to the mutual respect and friendship among the 26 member organizations and the commitment each has made to advocating for and advancing the sorority experience.”

Carole Jones is the fourth member of Alpha Omicron Pi to hold the position of chairman in rotation. Jones was initiated as a member of Alpha Omicron Pi at the University of Alabama. After graduation, she remained engaged in a number of volunteer roles for Alpha Omicron Pi, including serving as inter/national president. She began her service in NPC in 2003 when she was appointed to the delegation for Alpha Omicron Pi. Since then, she has served NPC as an area advisor, chairman of the University Document Review Committee, chairman of the Extension Committee and leader of several task forces. (Full bio.)

“During the past 10 years, our member organizations have benefited from a strong and consistent expansion of the sorority community,” said Jones. “Now research shows we are likely entering a much more challenging period. Continued collaboration with NPC member organizations and our industry partners will help ensure our sorority and fraternity communities face our challenges head on and stay vibrant and healthy. I look forward to two years filled with opportunity and promise, and I look forward to continuing to serve into our bright and promising future together.”

Jones was installed as chairman at the 2017 NPC annual meeting in Denver, Colorado.
