By July 15, 2025Uncategorized

INDIANAPOLIS —  The National Panhellenic Conference Foundation (NPC Foundation) is honoring Kim Durand with its Women in Higher Education Achievement Award (WHEA). The award recognizes an outstanding woman who has made, or is making, a significant difference in higher education through her scholarship and leadership. Durand is the deputy athletic director of student services and senior woman athletic administrator at the University of Washington.

She has more than 30 years of experience leading academic support and development programs for student-athletes in Division I institutions, including the University of Oregon, the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of Kansas and the University of Washington, where she currently serves.

“Widely respected in the male-dominated field of collegiate athletics, Kim leads with purpose, consistently supporting and empowering student-athletes. Over the course of her 30-year career, she has enhanced the collegiate experience for hundreds—if not thousands—of athletes,” said Lisa Scott, 2021-25 grand president of Pi Beta Phi, who nominated Kim Durand for the WHEA Award. “She has served as a steady presence for them through coaching transitions, gender inequalities in sports and even a global pandemic.”

Durand is a proud member of Pi Beta Phi and joined the chapter at the University of Oregon,  where she received her Bachelor of science degrees in rhetoric and communication and psychology. Since her graduation, she has remained a dedicated volunteer and currently serves as secretary on Pi Beta Phi Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Durand also serves as a member of the executive committee for the University of Oregon Alumni Association’s board of directors and the board of trustees for the University of Washington Alumni Association. She previously served as the president of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A).

Kim Durand will be formally honored as the Women in Higher Education Award recipient during the NPC Foundation dinner during the 2025 NPC Annual Conference, October 23-25, in Salt Lake City, Utah. This award is funded by the NPC Foundation through an endowment established by Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and the Tri Sigma Foundation.
