INDIANAPOLIS – The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), one of the largest advocacy and support organizations for women, has launched a public health promotion to educate college-age sorority women on how to proactively take action to help stop the transmission of COVID-19 in their communities and on campus.
“We recognize a return to ‘business as usual’ is not acceptable, and we understand the role fraternities and sororities can play in setting the tone for on- and off-campus social life and helping to maintain healthy campus communities,” said NPC Chairman Carole J. Jones. “By following local health guidelines and adopting safer behaviors, NPC members and chapters can help reduce the likelihood of outbreaks and help shape the actions of the broader campus community.”
COVID-19 is a virus that is spread via respiratory droplets. NPC has partnered with public health experts on the #StopTheDrops promotion that focuses on education about how the virus is spread through droplets in shared air, the dangers COVID-19 poses to young adults and ways to reduce or stop the virus’s transmission. Sorority women are encouraged to have conversations, think through gatherings and events and keep practicing everyday actions, such as hand washing, staying 6 feet apart, wearing a mask and disinfecting.

In addition to a short informational video, NPC is also sharing additional education and resources regarding the problem of shared air and how to #StoptheDrops that transmit COVID-19. Throughout the promotion, materials will be shared on NPC’s social media channels, in newsletters to College Panhellenic Associations and on the NPC website.
Even if the campus has moved to a fully remote experience, stopping the spread of COVID-19 is still an important topic for dialogue. Sorority women may still live nearby each other or be traveling to meet in person, raising the risk of getting or spreading COVID-19.
