Directors First to Serve in NPC’s New Organizational Structure and Governance Model
INDIANAPOLIS – The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), the umbrella organization for 26 inter/national sororities and one of the largest groups advocating for women, today announced the first group of women to serve on the NPC Board of Directors under the organization’s new governance and structure model.
The 2019-21 directors are:
Rie Gerah Hoehner, Alpha Gamma Delta (appointed in rotation)
Malaea Seleski, Zeta Tau Alpha (appointed in rotation)
Mary Kacmarcik Baker, Alpha Chi Omega
Cheri De Jong, Sigma Kappa
Laura Doerre, Kappa Alpha Theta
Carole Jones, Alpha Omicron Pi
Laura Sweet, Sigma Sigma Sigma
Carole Jones was elected to serve as chairman.
“Our member organizations and the greater Panhellenic community increasingly are looking to NPC as a resource and a convener,” said NPC CEO Dani Weatherford. “Under our new governance structure and leadership, the Conference will be able to focus greater resources and staff-level engagement on priorities ranging from recruitment and membership growth, enhanced data collection and communications efforts advocating for the sorority experience. All of us look forward to working with the new Board of Directors as they set the strategic direction of the Conference and support NPC’s efforts to advance the sorority experience together.”
About the new NPC governance structure
The new NPC structure and governance model includes a new seven-member Board of Directors consisting of five members elected to service by the new Council of Delegates and two directors appointed by their member organization (on a rotational basis). The NPC chairman also will be elected by the Council of Delegates.
The Board of Directors will lead NPC and have authority and responsibility for overseeing the affairs of NPC. They will establish corporate policy, set the strategic direction, oversee and secure resources and monitor organizational performance.
The Council of Delegates consists of one representative from each of NPC’s 26 member organizations and has primary responsibility for Conference membership and Panhellenic policies.
The new governance structure was approved in October 2018. The new directors will begin service on July 1, in conjunction with the start of NPC’s fiscal year.
The NPC staff will continue to accomplish their work alongside the organization’s volunteers.
