INDIANAPOLIS — The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), one of the largest advocacy
organizations for women, is recognizing Jennifer Pierce, from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT), with
its 2017 Outstanding Panhellenic Advisor Award.
As assistant director for fraternity and sorority life at UT, Pierce oversees and advises the college’s fraternity and
sorority community, consisting of 40 inter/national organizations and 4,000+ community members.
“Within the past few years, our office of sorority and fraternity life lost both a director and assistant director,” said
Elisabeth Logan, former Panhellenic president and current leadership consultant with Sigma Kappa. “Jennifer
immediately took up the challenge of working with not only our Panhellenic community but also several chapters
within our IFC community.”
Committed to developing philanthropic endeavors, Pierce advocated for the adoption of the Circle of Sisterhood
Foundation as a Panhellenic philanthropy. Circle of Sisterhood serves as a mechanism by which all sorority
women can stand together across affiliation, age, color and creed to make a difference in the lives of millions of girls and women around the world. Pierce also organized a fundraiser benefiting an all-girls school under construction in Haiti. During this time, she traveled to Malawi, Africa to help another group of sorority women build a school.
“These endeavors truly bonded our Panhellenic community as we were able to work together toward a common
goal,” said Logan. “Having this experience, Jennifer went even further and supported this year’s Panhellenic
officers as they signed on to build another school.”
Pierce works to ensure the Panhellenic community has a true purpose. She also challenges the
community to address difficult and important issues facing college students today, such as increased awareness
about sexual assault and alcohol abuse.
“Jennifer taught me how to be strategic and stand up for my beliefs. She constantly made me think critically and
move forward,” said Logan. “Years from now, I will still be striving to be as dedicated, kind and strong as she has
shown me a woman can be.”
Pierce will receive the Outstanding Panhellenic Advisor Award Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, during NPC’s annual
meeting.
